# 8x8 Work Multi-Device Support FAQ

## Overview

Multi-device support allows a single user to sign in to multiple devices on the same platform simultaneously. This lets users receive calls and messages across multiple computers or mobile devices without having to switch accounts.

### Supported Scenarios

- **Work for Desktop:**
  - Up to **3 desktop devices** logged in at the same time
  - Example: Home computer + office computer + laptop
- **Work for Mobile:**
  - Up to 3 mobile devices logged in at the same time
  - Example: Phone + tablet

Desktop and mobile device limits are **separate**.

---

## How Multi-Device Support Works

- Incoming calls ring **simultaneously** on all logged-in devices:
  - Desktop
  - Mobile
  - Web (active tab only)
- When a call is answered on one device:
  - The call connects on that device
  - **A Call Flip banner** appears on the other devices

---

## Device Login Limits and Logout Behavior

If you log in to a **fourth device**, one of the existing devices is automatically logged out.

---

### Work for Desktop

- Logging in to a **fourth desktop device**:
  - Logs you out of the **first desktop device** you signed into

---

### Work for Mobile

Logout behavior depends on whether existing devices are active (foreground) or inactive (background).

#### All three devices are in the background

- Logging in to a fourth device:
  - Logs out the **last-used device** when:
    - An incoming call is received on another device, or
    - You switch back to an older app instance

#### All three devices in the foreground

- Logging in to a fourth device:
  - Logs out the **first device** you signed into

#### Mixed foreground and background devices

- Logging in to a fourth device:
  - Logs out **one of the background devices**

---

### Active Call Behavior (Mobile)

If the first logged-in device is on an active call:

- **iOS**:
  - Waits for the call to end, then logs out
- **Android**:
  - Ends the call immediately and logs out

---

## Known Limitation

- **Nomadic** 911 does not support multiple instances of **Work for Desktop** at this time.
- If you reset your password, you will need to manually log out of all your devices and back in with the correct password.

---

## Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

### Does multi-device support apply to Work for Web?

No. Multi-device limits do not apply to Work for Web.

- Work for Web does **not count** toward the three-device limit
- Calls ring only on the **active browser tab**
- Other tabs show a notification allowing you to switch

---

### Can I answer multiple calls across different devices?

Yes, but:

- A maximum of **two concurrent calls** is supported per user

---

### Can I see which devices I’m logged into?

No. There is currently no way to view logged-in devices in:

- Admin Console
- 8x8 Work apps

---

### What happens if I log into a fourth device while on a call?

- **iOS**: The call completes, then the app logs out
- **Android**: The call ends immediately and the app logs out

---

### How does the Call Flip banner work with multiple calls?

- The **first call** shows a Call Flip banner
- The **second call** does not

---

### Do notification settings sync across devices?

Only these settings sync:

- **Business hours notifications**
- **Snooze notifications**

All other notification settings are **device-specific**.

---

### What if I can’t use multi-device support?

Multi-device support may be restricted for some users due to system capacity and balance considerations.

**Next step:**

Contact your 8x8 **Sales representative** to discuss availability for your environment.

---

## Summary

- Up to **3 devices per platform** (Desktop and Mobile)
- Calls ring on all logged-in devices
- Logging into a fourth device triggers an automatic logout
- Work for Web does not count toward device limits
- Some features and regions may have restrictions

### Additional Information:

To add multiple devices to a single line in 8x8 services, you can set up either a Call Queue or a Ring Group.
