# Activating a Polycom phone that has 5.3-5.4 Firmware version

## Objective

Successfully provision a polycom phone with Firmware version 5.3-5.4 without needing to whitelist and use the special provisioning server

## Applies To

- Polycom VVX on firmware versions 5.3-5.4

## Procedure

1. Log in to Admin Console as the customer.
2. Click **Users**.
3. Click the **pencil icon** to edit a User.
4. Scroll down to *Voice Basic Settings*.
5. Click the *Device Model* dropdown list.
6. Select the correct device type from the list.
7. Select the **Input MAC address** option.

9. Click **Save**.
  - Make sure there is no error when activating the device.
10. In a web browser on a computer on the same network as the phone, browse to the phone's IP address (https://<IP address of phone).
11. Log in as *Admin* and using default password of 456
12. Click **Utilities**.
13. Click the **Software Upgrade** button.
  - Click on the **Clear Updates** / if **Clear Updates** is grayed out leave it as it is.

14. Click **Settings**.
15. Click to **TLS**.
16. Look for *TLS application*.

18. Click **Setting**.
19. Click on **Provisioning Server**.
20. Change **Server** **Type** to **HTTPS**.
21. Change **Server** **Address** to **pccfg.8x8.com/polycomuc/ .**
  - If the **Server Address** and **Server Type** is already set, then reboot the phone manually.

## Additional Information

Polycom phone use TLS 1.2 enable the SSL V2/V3 will force the phone to use TLS 1.2/1.3
