BLF/Presence Limitations on Poly VVX 150

Prev Next

Question

Why am I unable to configure or use Busy Lamp Field (BLF) to monitor other extensions on my Poly VVX 150 desk phone?

Applies To

  • Device: Poly (formerly Polycom) VVX 150

  • Features: Presence Monitoring, BLF, Power Keys

Answer

The Poly VVX 150 does not support BLF on the 8x8 platform due to hardware constraints.  The device features only two physical line keys. For a consistent user experience and reliable call handling, 8x8 assigns both of these keys as Line Registrations. This allows you to manage two active calls simultaneously (e.g., holding one call while answering another).

Cause

All available physical keys are consumed by these primary line functions; there are no remaining keys to assign for monitoring other users' status. Unlike higher-tier models in the VVX series, the VVX 150 is designed as a basic, entry-level handset for low-call-volume environments where advanced presence monitoring is not the primary requirement.

Additional Information

As seen in the Web Configuration Utility (under Utilities > Line Key Configuration), the Max Active Line Keys is set to 2. This model does not support "Sidecars" or Electronic Hook Switch (EHS) modules, which typically allow expanded key layouts found on higher-tier models.
