# How to disable Audible Ring if BLF monitored lines are under the Attendant category

## Symptom

Users report that their desk phones audibly ring whenever a monitored Busy Lamp Field (BLF) extension receives an incoming call. This occurs even when "Audible Config" is set to disabled, and Line Keys have been deleted and rebuilt.

## Applies To

- Poly Edge E series family
  - All firmware versions (specifically noted in UCS 8.0.x and 8.1.x)
  - Configuration: BLF / Attendant Resource Lists

## Resolution

To resolve the audible ringing, the Attendant Ring Type must be explicitly silenced at the device level or via the provisioning server, as it overrides individual Line Key settings.

#### Method 1: Manual Handset Adjustment

- Press the **Home** button.
- Navigate to **Settings** > **Basic** > **Ring Type**.
- Select **Attendant Calls**.
- Scroll to the top of the list and select **Silent** (or "**No Ring**").
- Press **Save** or **Select**.

#### Method 2: Provisioning Template (XML)

Add or update the following parameters in your configuration file to push the fix to all three extensions simultaneously:

## Cause

The Poly Edge E series classifies BLF monitored lines under the "Attendant" category. By default, the global "Attendant Ring Type" is set to a standard ringer. On these models, the global Attendant ring setting takes precedence over the "Audible Notification" toggle found within the individual Line Key configuration menu.

## Additional Information

Additionally, some firmware versions contain a "Visual-Audio" link where the phone triggers the audio driver to alert the user of the screen's visual state change during a BLF event.

Firmware Check: Ensure the phones are running the latest stable firmware (8.1.x or higher), as earlier versions had a bug where "Silent" settings were ignored if "Visual Notifications" remained enabled.

SCA vs. BLF: Verify that the keys are configured as BLF and not Shared Call Appearance (SCA). SCA lines are designed to ring on all handsets by default and require different handling to silence.
