# MacOS 11 (Big Sur) Compatibility Change for 8x8 Work Desktop Version 8.39

## Question

Is MacOS 11 (Big Sur) compatible with 8x8 Work for Desktop?

## Answer

With the scheduled release of 8x8 Work Desktop version 8.39, which will occur **on December 9, 2026**, support for **MacOS 11 (Big Sur) will be discontinued**.

We strongly recommend upgrading all affected systems to **MacOS 12 (Monterey) or a later version** to ensure continued use of the 8x8 Work Desktop application.

## Temporary Alternatives

If you require additional time to complete your MacOS upgrades, you have two temporary options:

1. **Prevent Automatic Update:** You can temporarily disable the automatic update to version 8.39 by enabling the profile policy: ‘[Disable 8x8 Work app auto-update](/documentation/docs/review-profile-policy)' while your users are on version 8.38 or older.
  - This will allow users to remain on version 8.38 (or older) until you are ready to upgrade their operating systems.
  - **Please note:** Version 8.38 will reach End-of-Life (EOL) six months after version 8.39's General Availability (GA) date.
2. **Use the Web Application:** Your users can access the web-based application at [work.8x8.com](http://work-alpha.8x8.com).
