# Waiting for the Host When Joining a Meeting

## Question

Why do users see waiting for the host when joining a meeting?

## Answer

Any meeting created without a tenant (for example, [https://8x8.vc/ThisExampleMeeting](https://8x8.vc/ThisExampleMeeting)) will initially require an authenticated user to start the meeting. Any non-authenticated user who joins beforehand will be in a **waiting for the host** state until an authenticated user joins the meeting.

> Authentication will not be required for any future meetings using the same meeting URL.
