# Why am I getting spam or robo calls?

Why am I getting spam or robo-calls?

## Answer

This may be due to traffic pumping. In North America, businesses and other entities sometimes pay for the usage of toll-free numbers so that their customers may call them without cost to the caller. Fraudsters sometimes take advantage of this and make fraudulent robotic calls intended to exploit businesses and individuals by making them pay the costs for these undesired calls.
