# Why I am not able to Forward a Call From an International Number to a Toll Free Number ?

## Question

Why do calls fail when I try to forward a call from an international number to a Toll Free number?

## Applies To

- 8x8 Work

## Answer

U.S. toll-free numbers (e.g., starting with 800, 888, 877, etc.) are only accessible from within the U.S., Canada, and certain U.S. territories.

They are not designed to receive calls from international destinations because the toll charges are paid by the number owner within their domestic network.

When you try to forward a call from an international number, the call must cross country boundaries and international carrier which don’t recognize U.S. toll-free routing agreements.

As a result, the forwarding attempt fails since international carriers treat toll-free numbers as non-routable or invalid destinations outside their region.

## Additional Information

### Possible Alternatives :

- Forward to a standard U.S. local number instead of a toll-free number.
- Set up a local number in the country where the call originates and forward it internally within your system.
