# Work Apps Settings FAQ

## Overview

Work Apps Settings is an administrative tool in the Admin Console that allows administrators to control and customize 8x8 Work apps behavior centrally.

In July of 2025, a new policy-based configuration feature was added to 8x8 Admin Console to provide more granular control over 8x8 Work settings deployment.

## Applies To

- 8x8 Work for Desktop
- 8x8 Work for Web
- 8x8 Work for Mobile
- 8x8 Engage

## Questions & Answers

### What is Work Apps Settings?

Work Apps Settings enables 8x8 Admin Console administrators to:

- Configure specific features for 8x8 Work for Desktop, Web, and Mobile applications
- Set caller info pop-ups, audio & video settings, and general configuration options
- Establish default settings and lock configurations to prevent end-user modifications
- Control platform-specific features (some settings are Mobile-only, Desktop-only, or Engage-specific)

### What was the previous behavior of Work Apps Settings?

Before July 2025, all settings configured in **Work Apps Settings** were applied uniformly across the entire customer base with no granularity. When an administrator modified a setting, it affected all users in the organization without exception.

### Why has 8x8 added this feature?

This new Policy-Based Configuration feature was added in response to customer requests for the ability to apply different Work Apps Settings to specific user groups, rather than applying them organization-wide.

The solution is to integrate with the existing Profile Policy system to enable granular settings control.

For example you can:

- Add different settings for mobile vs. web users
- Create specific configurations for particular departments
- Create targeted settings for specific user groups

### How does it work?

- A new **Select profile policy** dropdown menu now appears at the top of the **Work Apps Settings** page.
- The dropdown menu loads all available Profile Policies.
- The default selection is **All Profile Policies** to maintain previous behavior.

### What are the Configuration options?

**All Profile Policies** (Default)

- **Behavior:** Settings apply to the entire customer base
- **Exception:** Users who are part of Profile Policies with already configured settings will NOT be affected by "All Profile Policies" changes
- **Use Case:** When you want to set organization-wide defaults

**Specific Profile Policy Selection**

- **Behavior:** Settings apply only to users within the selected Profile Policy
- **Use Case:** When you want to customize settings for a specific group of users

> [!WARNING]
> Important
>
> **Priority and Override Logic:** Once a setting is configured for a specific Profile Policy, that setting will take precedence over the **All Profile Policies** settings for users in that group.

### How can I restore my settings to default values if I need to?

To make a specific Profile Policy follow the **All Profile Policies** setting again:

1. Select the specific Profile Policy from the dropdown menu.
2. Click **Restore to default values** for the desired setting.

The setting will now inherit from **All Profile Policies**.
