# Summarize chat messages

> This feature is free of charge and available for the 8x8 Desktop/Web apps version 8.20 and later.

If you have engaged in extensive discussions with colleagues or teams and wish to obtain a summary, you can easily generate one for the last 24 hours, the past 3 days, unread messages, or messages starting from any specific point.

> Summaries will be translated to English if the discussion takes place in one of the following languages: English, German, French, Italian, Portuguese, Hindi, Spanish, or Thai.

**To summarize chat messages:**

1. 2. Depending on your needs, you can:
  - Summarize the conversation from the past 24 hours, the last 3 days, and any unread messages:

    - Choose the desired time frame: **Unread**, **Last 24 hours**, or **Last 3 days**, .
    - Summarize the conversation starting with a specific message:

3. Once you select an option, a new **Chat Summarization** panel shows the summarized text.
