8x8 Desk Phones - Daylight Saving Time (DST) Changes FAQ

Prev Next

Overview

Several Canadian regions have stopped observing daylight saving time (DST), so 8x8 provisioned desk phones set to those regions need updated time zone rules. This information reflects government announcements and IANA time zone data as of 26 October 2026 and may change. 8x8 has updated these rules and is preparing phone configurations for the affected time zones. This FAQ explains which time zones changed, what partners and customers need to do before the clock changes on 1 November 2026, and who to contact for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Changing?

Some Canadian regions no longer change their clocks for DST. 8x8 has updated the time zone rules used to build desk phone configurations so that phones in those regions keep the correct local time. No new time zones have been added. Existing time zones in Admin Console now follow the updated rules.

Which time zones are affected?

Phones set to the following time zones will stop changing their clocks for DST.

What do I need to do?

If any of your phones use an affected time zone, take these steps now that the release is live:

  1. Identify the users or devices set to an affected time zone.

  2. Reboot those phones at a convenient time, ideally before 1 November 2026.

  3. Confirm each phone shows the correct local time after it restarts.

In most cases, no other changes are needed. If a phone shows the wrong time after rebooting, see The clock is still wrong after a reboot section below.

Will 8x8 reboot my phones automatically?

No. 8x8 is updating the configurations so they are ready for the endpoints, but it will not force a reboot. Most phones pick up the new rules the next time they reboot after their configuration is updated. This avoids restarting phones in environments where an unplanned restart is not acceptable.

Can I ask 8x8 to reboot phones at a specific time?

Yes. If you want help rebooting phones at a set time, for example outside business hours, contact 8x8 Support. If you do not want all devices to be rebooted, please provide the list of MAC addresses or extensions, the affected time zone, the number of devices, and your preferred time window. Scheduling is subject to availability and is confirmed on a case-by-case basis.

What happens if I do not reboot my phones?

Phones that have not rebooted will keep following the old DST rules. Phones in the affected Canadian time zones will move their clocks back one hour on 1 November 2026 and show the wrong time. Rebooting the phone corrects the time in most cases. If it does not, see The clock is still wrong after a reboot.

The clock is still wrong after a reboot. What should I check?

The phone may still have an old configuration file, even if the correct time zone is selected in Admin Console. Saving a time zone change makes 8x8 rebuild the file.

  1. Go to Admin Console > Users > Edit user (pencil icon) > Basic Information > Time Zone.

  2. If the time zone does not match the phone’s location, select the correct one and save. If the clock is still wrong after the phone picks up the change, go to step 5.

  3. If the time zone is already correct, select any other time zone and save.

  4. Select the correct time zone again and save. Do this right after step 3 so the phone does not pick up the temporary time zone.

  5. If the clock is still wrong, contact 8x8 Support with the extension or MAC address.

We selected a generic time zone, such as Pacific Time. Is it affected?

Generic time zones follow the standard rules for that zone name. They do not follow region-specific changes. If your location is in a region listed above, select the time zone for your specific region in Admin Console. 8x8 does not change time zone selections on your behalf.

Are Saskatchewan and Yukon affected?

No. These time zones already had no DST in 8x8 configurations, so no change or action is needed.

The time zone name on my phone looks different. Is something wrong?

No. Some phones now show a different label for the new time zone, such as a generic zone name or a different city name. The label change does not affect the clock.

When will the update be available?

The update was released across all supported phone vendors on 26 October 2026.
