Set up multiple Single Sign-On for 8x8 Admin Console

Prev Next

As an administrator, you can configure multiple Single Sign-On (SSO) identity providers on a single 8x8 account. This supports environments where different user groups authenticate through different providers, such as during mergers, migrations, or across separate business units.

You add each provider on the Identity and Security page. See Set up Single Sign-On for 8x8 Admin Console and the page for each provider under Configure your identity provider.

How multiple providers work

  • Each user is assigned to one active provider at a time.

  • You can turn on Set this provider as default for one provider. Any user added after that is automatically assigned to the default provider. Existing users are not changed.

  • You can configure only one Google provider and only one mTLS provider per account.

  • mTLS cannot be your only provider, because it covers Android devices rather than your full user base. See Set up mTLS authentication for 8x8 Admin Console.

  • Users continue to sign in the same way through their assigned provider; they don't see any extra steps when an account has multiple providers configured.

Example use cases

Common scenarios include:

  • Mergers and acquisitions: When two companies use different providers, both can stay active during the transition. Acquired users get immediate access to 8x8 applications through their existing provider, before being migrated to the combined provider later.

  • Separate business units: Divisions or subsidiaries that run their own identity provider instances can each be assigned a different provider, while still sharing the same 8x8 applications.

Change which provider a user uses

You can change a user's assigned provider for many users at once, or for a single user.

Change SSO for multiple users

  1. Sign in to 8x8 Admin Console.

  2. Go to Home > Users.

  3. Select the users you want to update.

  4. In the horizontal menu, click More > Change SSO. The More menu appears at the upper right once you have selected users.

Change SSO for a single user

  4. Go to the Single Sign-On (SSO) section.

  5. Under Select the identity provider for this user, select a provider.

  6. Click Save at the bottom of the page.

The same SSO section also contains the Federation ID, or Google ID, field for that user. Assigning this value is a distinct procedure. See Configure Federation ID or Google ID in user records.
