Each user is matched to your identity provider by their Federation ID. By default, this is the user's 8x8 username, so most users need no change. You set this value only when the identifier your identity provider sends for a user is different from their 8x8 username. See Identity mapping on the Set up Single Sign-On for 8×8 Admin Console page for how matching works.
The field is called Federation ID for SAML providers, including Okta and Microsoft Azure (Entra). For Google, it is called Google ID.
Keep two things in mind when you set the value:
It must match the identifier your identity provider sends exactly. Even a small difference, such as an extra space, prevents the user from being matched.
It must be unique. The same value cannot be assigned to more than one user.
Set the Federation ID or Google ID for a single user
Sign in to 8x8 Admin Console.
Go to Home > Users.
Open the user's record.
Go to the Single Sign-On (SSO) section.
Enter the identifier your identity provider sends for this user: for SAML providers, use the Federation ID field; for Google, use the Google ID field instead.
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
You can select the user's identity provider in this same Single Sign-On (SSO) section. Provider selection is handled separately. See Configure your identity provider and Set up multiple Single Sign-On for 8x8 Admin Console.
Set the Federation ID or Google ID during bulk user creation
When you create users in bulk, the bulk upload template includes columns for Federation ID and Google ID, so you can set these values as you create the users. For the full bulk upload steps, see Create users in bulk.
