Supported calendar providers
8x8 now manages your calendar connection directly. The Cronofy-based integration for Microsoft 365 and Outlook users has been replaced by 8x8 Calendar, which is built and managed entirely by 8x8.
The feature works exactly as before and is found in the same place. The only action required from you is a one-time reconnection. The process is now simpler: two screens instead of four, with no third-party terms of service to accept. All your events return immediately once you reconnect.
What happens on the switch-over date
Your organization switches over on an agreed date. On that date, all users transition simultaneously and each person must reconnect their own calendar.
During the switch-over:
Your calendar connection ends temporarily, and your events stop appearing in 8x8 Work.
No account will be listed under Settings > Meetings > Calendar for meetings. This is expected; no calendar data or settings have been lost.
All your calendar events are restored instantly after you complete this reconnection step.
Reconnect your calendar
In 8x8 Work, go to Settings > Meetings.
Under Calendar for meetings, select Sync calendar.
Choose Microsoft 365/Outlook and sign in.
Go to Settings > Calendar & status to select and manage the specific calendars you want to sync.
For detailed instructions on setting up your integration, refer to the Sync your calendar section.
Your events reappear once the sync completes. You do not need to re-create any meetings, re-send any invitations, or make any changes in Outlook.

Reconnect a calendar account in 8x8 Work by choosing a provider, granting permissions, and managing the synced account list
Choose your calendar provider
The connection now goes directly to Microsoft, bypassing the Cronofy intermediary. In the Sync 8x8 Calendar window, hosted by 8x, select Microsoft 365 / Outlook. The single Microsoft 365/Outlook option covers both work or school accounts and personal Outlook.com or Hotmail accounts.
Note:
If your calendar is on an on-premises Exchange server or on iCloud, your organization will not be switched over until support for those providers is available. Your current connection continues to work in the meantime. Contact your 8x8 representative to confirm timing.
Grant access
The new connection requires one approval instead of three, with no third-party terms-of-service step. Upon redirecting to Microsoft, the application is listed as 8x8 Calendar, published by 8x8, featuring a blue verified publisher badge.
The permission requested has also changed:
Cronofy | 8×8 Calendar requests | |
|---|---|---|
Calendar access | ||
Profile | ||
Ongoing access |
8x8 Calendar connects to your calendars only. Your email is not part of the connection.
Note:
If your organization requires administrator approval for connected applications, an administrator approves 8x8 Calendar, published by 8x8, once using the Consent on behalf of your organization option, and all users can then connect without individual approval. If you are connecting a personal Outlook.com or Hotmail account, no administrator approval is needed.
Your connected account and calendars after reconnecting
After reconnecting, your account appears under Calendar for meetings, labelled Office 365. It is the same mailbox and the same calendars as before; only the label has changed from Exchange to Office 365.
You may notice more calendars available to sync than before. 8x8 Calendar shows every calendar in your account; nothing is synced unless you select it.
Your events after you reconnect
Your reminder settings and automatic "in a meeting" status are unaffected and found in the same place under Settings > Calendar & status.
Reconnecting immediately brings all of your events back. Nothing is lost, and nothing needs to be re-entered.
The migration does not alter your calendar in any way. All events, invitations, and meeting links remain exactly where they are in Outlook. Any existing 8x8 meeting attached to an event stays linked, and Teams meetings continue to be recognized with their join links intact. Reconnecting allows 8x8 to resume reading your calendar.

All Microsoft accounts (work, school, Outlook.com) and Hotmail, connect through the single Microsoft 365 / Outlook option.
If your calendar is on an on-premises Exchange server or on iCloud, your organization will not be switched over until support for those providers is available. Your current connection continues to work in the meantime. Contact your 8x8 representative to confirm timing.
Frequently asked questions (FAQ)
Will I lose my calendar history or existing meetings?
No. Reconnecting updates 8x8's connection to your calendar without deleting or modifying any entries. Past and future events reappear exactly as they were.Does 8x8 change anything in my calendar?
Only when you ask it to. 8x8 reads your calendar to display events, and writes to an event only when you add an 8x8 meeting to it — placing the joining link and dial-in details into the event. Nothing else is modified. Why do I have to reconnect manually — can't 8x8 do it automatically?
The permission to access your calendar was granted to Cronofy, and permissions cannot be transferred between companies. Microsoft requires you to grant access again, directly to 8x8. This is deliberate: it ensures nobody can access your calendar without your explicit approval.Do I need to resend invitations or reschedule meetings?
No. Meeting links stored in your calendar events are part of the event itself, not the calendar connection. They remain exactly where they are.How long before my events appear after reconnecting?
Your events are read as soon as the connection is made and appear shortly afterwards. Changes made in Outlook continue to flow through automatically, as before.Do my colleagues need to reconnect too?
Yes. Each calendar connection is personal. Your entire organisation switches over on the same date, so everyone reconnects at the same time. Can we stay on the previous connection?
No. The migration applies to your entire organisation on the agreed-upon date and is not per-person. If the timing does not work for your team, contact your 8x8 representative. What happens to my data at Cronofy?
Once the transition occurs, the previous connection is terminated, and Cronofy no longer has access to your calendar. Your calendar data stays securely with your calendar provider — Microsoft or Google — exactly as it always has.
Troubleshooting
If your events do not appear after reconnecting, or if the interface differs from what is described here, follow these steps:
Verify your account status. Go to Settings > Meetings > Calendar for meetings and confirm your account is listed as Office 365 with your calendars displayed beneath it.
Confirm your active calendars. Go to Settings > Calendar & status > Calendar integration > Edit and confirm the expected calendars are selected.
Reconnect if needed. If the issue persists, repeat the steps in the Reconnect your calendar section above.
If the issue continues, contact 8x8 Support or your 8x8 representative and mention that you recently migrated from the Cronofy calendar integration to 8x8 Calendar.
